Understanding the Mesomorph Body Type

Individuals that are born with a perfect physique and the ability to easily lose and gain weight and keep their muscle mass are known to have mesomorph body types. Not considered fat or skinny, individuals with mesomorph body types are naturally strong, have a proportionate physique and can sustain a strenuous amount of activity.

Mesomorph refers to individuals with ‘gifted’ statures or bodies of perfect physique.  This is because individuals who are born with a mesomorphic body type naturally have very little body fat and can burn it off very easily if additional weight is gained.  Every individual wishes to have this type of body type however this body type is rare.  Persons with this body type will not appear obese or large in any way.  Instead, persons with this body type have broader shoulders than their hips, carry large muscle mass, are evenly proportionate throughout their body, and are naturally athletic.   

Mesomorph body types also are able to gain weight and muscle mass very easily.  This is because persons with a mesomorphic body type are able to burn a high amount of calories within just a few workouts a week while consuming a large calorie intake.  This helps individuals with this type of body type to put on weight easily by eating and shed off additional weight while in the gym to create a sleek muscular appearance.  Mesomorph body types are also able endure long periods of strenuous activity such as jobs that require manual labor, sports, and various occupations that involve maintaining a physical regime.  This is because individuals with a mesomorph body type tend to be much stronger than others that aren’t and have higher stamina’s. 

The term ‘Mesomorph’ was coined by the American physicist William Sheldon.  William Sheldon studied the differences in human body types, personalities, and delinquencies from the 1930’s throughout the 1970’s.  During this time, William Sheldon created a unique classification model that distinguished human beings, both male and female, from their different body types.  He then described each body type and the benefits as well as the negative qualities. 

Familiar mesomorph body types belong to those of famous celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stalone, Bruce Willis, Tina Turner, Madonna, and Halle Berry.  These individuals with mesomorph body types are easily recognizable and are highly noticed for their roles that require extraneous weight gain and weight loss within just a few months time. 

Male mesomorph body types will tend to be medium to large in appearance.  Often times their shoulders will be much broader than their hips as well as muscles in their arms, legs, back, chest, and shoulders will be naturally strong.  Female mesomorph body types will also be medium in appearance but rarely do they reach large in muscle mass appearance.  Females with this body type will tend to be more muscular in appearance but still retain a proportionate and slender physique.  Women with this body type will have an hourglass appearance as well as flat abdominal area.
